Alternative flag of Wales: Welsh Bands Forum

A while ago I was somewhat involved in the launch of the unofficial Welsh Bands Forum, and designed a mascot to be used in the site’s graphical identity. Sadly the forum is becoming a bit of an abandoned project but may be revived by its owner sometime in the future, at which point the designs will be waiting for him.

I’ve always been fascinated by the Welsh flag (and for that matter flags in general) – a dragon is so much cooler than some boring crosses. The best world flags have out-of-the-ordinary designs specific to their country and cultures and are less likey to be confused with other national flags. For example, the Ivory Coast flag bears a resemblance to Ireland’s,  and Niger’s resembles India’s somewhat.

It’d be an interesting project to create some flags for online nations, countries that don’t lay claim to any specific areas of land, only cyberspace.

I know nothing about art; as a rule, 'modern' graphic design does not appeal to me. I like to write in the first person because I do not want to be someone else.

Influences: public toilet cubicle drawings/slogans; WordArt posters in Market Street shop windows; Mega-Zine; bootleg vinyl artwork; Janne Suni; Pink Floyd; whoever is responsible for the Max Headroom hijacking incident; Collie, the Inept Reviewer.

  1. Awesome pic. I am assuming you drew it with that thingy-ma-bob that you used to make that Chewie pic on ?pedia. I got your email, checked out the chewie in the kitchen which I am going to use for a fact. I am thinking of setting up a new formula for Chewie Facts. I was thinking like, a schedule with New facts on Mon, Chewie Pics on Tues, Chewie Videos on Wed, New Chewie Facts on Thurs, and Other Cool Chewie Stuff on Fri. I don’t think it will be set up like tat for a while, but I will look forward to the day.
